A town is in trouble. Creatures like the Parasite are gathering on the other side, drawn by something evil hidden in plain sight. They're close to breaking through. Follow the clues toward whatever is calling them. The answers are all there to be found. Whether you'll want them is another matter.
This is the Parasite. It is one of the new monsters for the adventure we're beta testing. This creature isn't particularly dangerous on its own, but the moment it manages to find a host it becomes a real threat.
Down below is the Sobbing Girl. Her tale is a tragic one. As a result of what was done to her, she can never satiate her hunger or understand why.
We're looking for GMs and players to beta test the adventure, with the first round starting in mid-October. GMs play it with us first, then run it for their own table. It's free, and your feedback will shape the game. Join our Discord and sign up in #halloween-adventure-beta →
Is This for You?
It's our Halloween adventure, so you can probably guess. This will be a horror-themed adventure. As it will contain body horror, medical horror, identity loss and death of innocents, it is intended for mature audiences.
Not for you? No worries! There will be other adventures which will not be horror-themed. The Persistence is a dark world but not a horror-themed one. It just happens to be this first adventure that is.
How It Will Work
We'll run the beta test in rounds, and each round improves the game based on your feedback. So even if you can't make the first round, sign up anyway and join a later one.
Each round starts with the GMs. We'll run the adventure for you ourselves, so you learn the mechanics the best way there is: by playing them. Afterwards, if you'd like to continue, you run it for your own group. There's no obligation, though we hope you will.
GMs are welcome to bring their own players, and players without a group will be placed with a GM where there's room.

Our Material and Mechanics
The game will use our world and our mechanics, both of which are in development. By participating, you'll be helping us try these out and make them better.
Since the game is still being worked on, that does mean not everything will be perfect. That's the whole point of these beta tests. We ask for your understanding if things don't work as expected and will do our best to fix things as quickly as possible.
The content will be divided over two books. A Source Book about the world and a Core Rule Book for the mechanics.
To get an idea what will be in the Source Book, here are a few articles:
- If Schrödinger Wrote Fantasy
- Six Ways to Worship a God You're Afraid Of
- The Problem With Immortality in Fantasy
For the Core Rule Book, check out these articles:
In this adventure you'll get to try out these two systems as well as others we haven't yet written about.
What We Need From You
The adventure is a one-shot for 4 to 5 players and takes about 6 hours.
If you're a GM, we'll need:
You play it with us first.
The first sessions are in mid-October, in person in Berlin for those close by and online on Discord for those further away. Each table has room for five and we only have two GMs on our team, so places are limited. You can give feedback right away as you play.
You run it for your own table.
If you want to continue, run it in the following weeks, online or off. We'll provide the adventure as PDFs and Obsidian files. We're also building an app that makes playing the game easier, which will be available later.
You give us feedback.
This is the vital one. The sooner you give it to us and the more detailed it is, the easier we'll find it to make the game better. You can give it in writing or in a call, whichever you prefer.
If you're a player, we'll need:
You join a table.
Sign up and we'll place you at one of our tables, or, where there's room, at a table run by one of the GMs taking the adventure to their own group.
You give us feedback.
Just like the GMs: in writing or in a call, whichever suits you.
If this sounds like something you'd like to take part in, join our Discord and fill in the form in #halloween-adventure-beta. We look forward to having you.
